From Sheri Lighters office

August 15, 2009

I received an email from a neighbor letting me know that he and his wife had called Sheri Lighter’s office and had received a call back from Jesse Mays of her office staff. I had also sent an email alerting her to what was going on and letting her know about the blog I had started. Here is the email response I received back earlier today.

I want to thank Councilmember Lightner and Jesse for being very responsive and providing us with the names and phone numbers of  Police and Animal Control personnel

Dear Mr. G

Thank you for contacting Councilmember Lightner regarding missing cats in your neighborhood, and for sharing the information about your blog.  The Councilmember is truly sorry to hear about this terrible issue and asked me to reply to you.

Councilmember Lightner has been working with the San Diego Police on this issue since we were informed about it yesterday.  San Diego Police Community Relations Officer Steve Schnick has alerted officers of this situation, so that those in the neighborhood are aware.  We have sent Officer Schnick a copy of your email.  You can also contact him at sschnick@pd.sandiego.gov or (858) 552-1713.

We also spoke to County Animal Control and let them know of this matter.  Please report any future incidents or anything suspicious to County Animal Control at 619-767-2675, in addition to calling SDPD.  If requested, County Animal Control can come out and do an investigation, including an autopsy.  You can contact them at any time with questions or concerns.

We have asked SPDP to inform us of any developments, and we will share those with you when we receive them.  Thank you for the information, and the Councilmember will continue to work to ensure the neighborhood can feel safe again soon.  Please contact us with any additional questions, concerns, or suggestions.

Sincerely,

Jesse Mays

Is there a “Cat Killer” in the UC neighborhood?

August 13, 2009

I am starting this blog to share information about all of the recent cat disappearances in the neighborhood. Our family cat “Stanley” disappeared on July 23rd. As we started looking around we heard that other people in the neighborhood were also missing their cats. Yesterday I saw a sign alerting that there was a “Cat Killer” in the neighborhood. At this point I’m not sure what to think. My wife and son have been working all the theories, coyotes, raccoons, to someone stole him because he was just so damn handsome. Now it’s beginning to look like there maybe something more sinister.

Please feel free to leave a comment. If you would like to post or be a contributor to this blog, you will have to send me an email so that I can allow you access: uccatwatch@me.com
